Abstract

THE PAVEMENT CONDITION INDEX (PCI) DETERMINES THE FUNCTIONAL CONDITION OF AN AIRPORT PAVEMENT. THIS PARAMETER IS OBTAINED BY SURVEYING EXISTING DEFECTS ON THE SURFACE OF THE ANALYZED SECTIONS. THE TOTAL ANALYSIS AREA IS DIVIDED INTO SECTIONS THAT CONSIDER USAGE, MATERIAL, AND CONDITION. THUS, THE HYPOTHESIS IS THAT THIS INDEX PRESENTS SOME SPATIAL STRUCTURE, SINCE THE SECTIONS HAVE AGGREGATED INFORMATION BASED ON WELL-DEFINED CRITERIA. BASED ON THE ABOVE, THIS WORK AIMS TO VERIFY THE SPATIAL AUTOCORRELATION OF THE PCI VARIABLE OF AIRPORT PAVEMENTS IN AN EXPLORATORY MANNER, DETERMINING A SPATIAL PATTERN OF DEFECT DISTRIBUTION, AND PROVIDING SUBSIDIES FOR PREDICTING VALUES. TO THIS END, INFORMATION ON DEFECTS AND PCI CALCULATED ON THE RUNWAY OF A BRAZILIAN AIRPORT COLLECTED IN 2018 WAS CONSIDERED. THE EXISTENCE OF SPATIAL AUTOCORRELATION WAS ANALYZED USING MORAN’S I VALUES, AND THE DENSITY OF THE MOST RECURRENT DEFECT IN THE EVALUATED SECTIONS, THE LOW-SEVERITY WHEEL TRACK SINKING, WAS USED AS AN EXPLANATORY VARIABLE FOR THE PCI. LINEAR REGRESSION BETWEEN THESE TWO PARAMETERS RESULTED IN A COEFFICIENT OF DETERMINATION OF 0.71. AUTOREGRESSIVE AND ERROR SPATIAL MODELS WERE ALSO VERIFIED; HOWEVER, NONE WERE SIGNIFICANT. AS PERFORMANCE INDICATORS, MORAN’S I, AKAIKE’S INFORMATION CRITERION, AND THE MAXIMUM LIKELIHOOD LOG WERE ADOPTED. IT WAS CONCLUDED THAT FOR THE CASE OF THE ANALYZED DATASET, LINEAR REGRESSION IS MORE EFFICIENT IN ESTIMATING THE PCI; HOWEVER, SPATIAL STATISTICS CAN BE USED FOR A SPATIAL UNDERSTANDING OF THE INFORMATION BY THE AERODROME OPERATOR.
