Abstract

SOME SPECIFIC CHARACTERISTICS OF AIRPORT OPERATIONS MAKE THE STRUCTURAL CONDITION OF THE PAVEMENTS OF AN AERODROME ONE OF THE MOST IMPORTANT FACTORS TO BE EVALUATED TO GUARANTEE THE OPERATIONAL SAFETY OF LANDINGS AND TAKEOFFS. IN THIS SENSE, THE WAY THE LOAD APPLIED BY THE DIFFERENT CONFIGURATIONS OF AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR IS DISTRIBUTED IN THE PAVEMENT LAYERS BECOMES ONE OF THE MAIN INFLUENCES IN AIRPORT PAVING PROJECTS. THEREFORE, IN VIEW OF THE ABOVE, THIS ARTICLE AIMS TO DETERMINE THE DEFORMATIONS OBTAINED BY THE AEMC AND MEPADS SOFTWARE, WHICH WORK IN A LINEAR ELASTIC WAY, FOR THREE AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR CONFIGURATIONS AND IN FOUR DIFFERENT ANALYSIS LOCATIONS FOR FIBER DISPLACEMENTS BOTTOM OF THE CASING AND THE TOP OF THE SUBGRADE. IN THE COMPARATIVE STUDY, FIVE TYPES OF AIRCRAFT WITH DIFFERENT LANDING GEAR CONFIGURATIONS (DOUBLE WHEELS, DOUBLE TANDEM AND TRIPLE TANDEM) AND MAXIMUM TAKE-OFF WEIGHT (MTOW) WERE USED. IT WAS VERIFIED THAT, DEPENDING ON THE DISTRIBUTION AND THE NUMBER OF WHEELS, THE DEFORMATIONS OF THE LAYERS CAN VARY CONSIDERABLY. CONSEQUENTLY, EACH MANUFACTURER MUST PROVIDE TYPICAL WEIGHTS, TIRE PRESSURES AND AIRCRAFT LANDING GEAR CONFIGURATIONS, AS THESE DATA SERVE AS A REFERENCE FOR THE DESIGN OF AN AIRPORT PAVEMENT. THE RESULTS SHOWED THAT THE AIRCRAFT THAT HAVE THE HIGHEST MTOW ARE NOT THE ONES THAT MOST CONTRIBUTE TO THE GREATEST DISPLACEMENTS IN THE AIRPORT PAVEMENT ANALYSIS SITES, REGARDLESS OF THE SOFTWARE USED, REQUIRING, THEREFORE, MORE DETAILED ANALYZES OF THE LIGHTER AIRCRAFT.
