Abstract

Rubber deposits caused by aircraft tires on the runways, especially during landing and takeoff operations, carriage a safety risk because it can increase the occurrence of accidents. Among the causes the compromise of water flow on the pavement, by obstructing the surface texture, damaging its coefficient of friction. The condition is mitigated by the periodic removal of rubber from the runway, whose accumulation is related to the volume of operations and other factors, such as environmental humidity and track temperature. This article aims to relate the rubber deposit of a runway with the landing and takeoff operations. The rubber deposits area characterization was made using image processing, acquired by a drone. The study considered the volume of turbojet aircraft operations, as the critical operating condition. By identifying the occurrence of a rubber removal service and comparing several processing conditions, it was possible to graphically identify that the variation in the percentage of rubber deposit area has a relation with the volume of landing operations.
